Smart cities importance
Today, World’s half population actually live in the cities. So, cities are very important to us. But cities also give us a lot of tasks, especially the architect plan. Because most of them face a growing population. Not only is the population growing, but it is also ageing, and people continue to have aspirations for a better quality of life. As the cities grow, we need to develop more infrastructures and services, and make it also. We need to encourage people to use less energy that carbon emissions can be reduce.
So, how to deal with them? The answer is many cities starting to adopt smart technology to improve our environment and our daily living. Now-a-days, everybody talks about being ‘smart’. To develop smart applications using information and communications technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), and getting insights into data can make day-to-day living comfort for us. It has been projected that by 2025, we will have at least 88 smart cities in the world.
Singapore’s national digitization efforts
PM Lee was talking at the Smart Nation Summit about Singapore’s smart nation vision outlined five years ago.
While the country has a strong base to become a smart nation– a technologically literate population and good IT infrastructure, and the Government taking the lead – there are areas in which it can do better, he said. He cited three ingredients that he said its necessary for Singapore to succeed in its vision to use technology to develop the quality of life for everyone.
In Singapore, they are already wired up. About 90% of homes have broadband connection and bring fibre to their every home. Singapore has one of the highest smartphone penetration rates in the world, at about 85%.
To build a smart world, we need to have smart planning, smart environment, smart estate services, smart living applications and services. Now-a-days, we have a lot of technologies and applications but we’ll need to select the right way. It’s also needed to ensure the strength of the cyber security. So, its a great challenge to find the right smart solutions to make cities much better home.
